Discussion Forum 1: The following discussion question encompasses information from the Texas Constitution, political culture in Texas, Texas Legislature and Executive Branch.

In your own words, taking care to fully explain and justify your answers and utilizing information in the textbook, respond to the following discussion question:

Do you think the Texas Constitution has struck the right balance in terms of gubernatorial power and legislative power? Should the governor have more or less power? Should the legislature meet more on a regular basis as oppose to biennially? How do you think the people of Texas would respond to changes in gubernatorial power and having a more full-time legislative branch?

Make sure to include information illustrating the diverse populous within the state of Texas. Also, your response should demonstrate topical knowledge of the Texas political culture and subcultures, its people, Texas Constitution, Texas Legislative and Executive branches.

Students must demonstrate an understanding of the content covered. Students are required to include as their first sentence a thesis statement followed by supporting statements (no more than 10 words directly quoting the text can be use–use quotations and page number(s) for all quoted information). Responses can include personal opinions if the question asked for personal thoughts, but each response is required to substantively discuss the discussion question.
