Case Study 1, January 2020
There is a new teaching hospital being built in the neighborhood. After a series of construction delays and setbacks, it was found that the main building is not structurally sound. After a thorough investigation, it was determined that it should be possible to correct the structural problems and get construction back under way. However, it appears very unlikely that the project will be completed on time and the construction company faces crippling fines if it cannot make up a considerable amount of lost time.
Due to the problems the company is facing, many of the company’s main leaders have left for other opportunities leaving a leadership vacuum in key positions. In addition, motivation and morale at the company are very low and several talented employees appear to be looking for other jobs. The CEO has brought you in with a challenge: “Get the project back on track.”

Select transformational leadership model
- Explain why the model you have chosen is appropriate to deal with the current situation. Your explanation should relate elements of the model to the specific conditions that exist in the case.
- Describe how you would employ the model to effect change in the organization and bring the project back on track. Explain what you would do to fill the empty leadership positions in the company, replace employees who have left the company, prevent additional leaders and employees from leaving, and raise motivation and morale to get the work back on track.
- Effective leaders make use of data to drive their decisions and plans. Describe the types of data you would need, how you would access that data, and what you would do with it. Please keep in mind formative and summative evaluation from the research methods class when preparing your answer.
