Sentencing Criminals in the Criminal Justice System
Based on their topic, students will submit a written report in APA format. The report will be a literature review. This means that students should be accessing textbooks and peer-reviewed journal articles on their topic (the topic is sentencing criminals in the CJ system). Papers should include a cover page, a 1,500-word literature review, and a references section. (the title page and References section do NOT count as part of the word count) There should be a minimum of 7 sources included!!

The literature review should look into the analysis of America’s criminal justice system. Beginning with the concepts of social order and control. Define what is sentencing, discuss the purpose/philosophies behind sentencing criminals. Discuss the history in the US (including determinate and indeterminate, sentencing guidelines, etc…) Where does the US stand now regarding sentencing criminals, what are sentencing options (i.e probation, jail fine, the death penalty, etc…) and finally statistics (use recent statistics)
