SIMULATED THESIS – OVERVIEW

Assignment learning outcome: simulate data collection and analysis for a political science Masters Thesis on an important but sensitive topic. Summary: revisit one of two controversial articles “Hispanic Challenge” by Huntington (2004) or “Negro Family” by Moynihan (1965) that you studied for Exam 1. Check the Exam 1 folder for those articles. Read this very carefully: Once you decide to revisit Huntington or Moynihan, identify and explain what you believe is the most important measure in the original essay. Then, research the best available statistical data to update this measure in line graph format. Likewise, identify and research another measure that you believe is important to this issue, but was not included in the original essay. You must find corresponding data for your new measure in line graph format, or you may create your own line graphs. Insert your line graphs into a Word document for the assignment.If you update Huntington, then you must find “breakout” data on Mexican-Americans or Cuban-Americans, and comparative data on race and ethnicity (Anglo/White; Black/African-American; Asian-American; other Hispanic). If you update Moynihan, then you must find comparative data on race/ethnicity (Anglo/White; Black/African-American; Asian-American; Hispanic) and gender.
