Visual Analysis
1. Select an image. Product advertisements and commercials are popular for this assignment. Also consider social and political propaganda, political cartoons, public health campaigns, movie posters, paintings, photographs, flyers, pamphlets, etc. As long as the selection is primarily visual, it should work for this assignment. Videos must be less than one minute in length.
2. Give a full description of the visual and summarize its argument. What is the creator’s purpose? What does the creator want viewers to know, believe, and/or do? Does the creator get the message across effectively? If so, what appeals or techniques work? If not, what does the writer miss?
