Musics, Technology, and Audio Culture

This is ONLY the literature research proposal for the final term paper.
The term paper will address an individual topic proposed by each student, who will explore music/audio culture and or as technology. Along the lines covered in class, the paper must be related to aspects of sound/music, media, technology, and culture, and will ideally be relevant to the student’s own interests. Among just some of the possible topics students might explore are acoustic ecology and the soundscape, acoustic space, listening/mobile listening, historical or contemporary soundscapes, musical technologies, aural space, music as energy, audio cultures, performance, musical multimedia, sound works, musical hermeneutics, reception, and Muzak. Superior work will present both a grasp of the literature as well as original research, and an evaluation rubric will be made available on Avenue to Learn. Papers should be double-spaced, 12-point Times font.
Literature searches form part of the wider process of literature review when conducting research projects. This is how we determine what work has already been done on our chosen topics, and so they thus shape our research accordingly. Literature search bibliographies must use APA style and include a minimum of 12 academic books or journal articles, in addition to any popular sources like news media, blogs etc.and selections from course readings. Students should describe their proposed topic/project in a short paragraph above their bibliographic listing.
