Practicum Experience Goals and Objectives

To be comfortable and competent with performing adult physical exams and assessments by the completion of my first practicum, at 160hrs.

To be competent and confident in documenting an H&P / developing SOAP notes by 100hrs
(3 successful SOAP notes in the course (GI, Musckuloskeletal, Respiratory)

To be comfortable with and able to critically assess a patient and link their complaints to related differential diagnoses
(Acute vs Chronic illness visits)

To be able to perform focused exams based on chronic/acute office visit complaints and assess the relative systems (coming up with differential diagnoses)

To be able to identify common labs, screenings and their milestones, interpret EKG’s and lab results by the completion of my first practicum, at 160hrs
(EKGs, CBC, CMP, Lipid, TSH, UA C&S, PSA)

To have seen and assessed at least 25 common complaints and illness (chronic/acute) in Primary Care by the end of my first practicum, at 160hrs and know the common workups, treatments, and management.
(Lyme’s Disease, Asthma, HTN, Eczema, Psoriatic Arthritis, Arthritis, Diabetes, Acne, URI, UTI, Cellulitis,Bronchitis, Blepharitis, Conjunctivitis, Tension Headaches, Migraines, Back Pain, GI Upset, Gastritis)

To be knowledgeable of my scope of practice, master the patient-provider relationship, and utilize the Pender Health Promotion Model to guide my practicum experience and future practice
(Penders Health Model and difference between MD and NP scope of practice)

To make the most out of my practicum experience, observing, learning from, and working side by side with my preceptor.
