For Assessment #1 students need to perform an actual Interview Plan which will be in the form of a report. By applying all theoretical elements learned in class, students should be able to create a plan on how to perform a real journalistic interview. They should implement theoretical basis they have acquired to:
1) Prepare for the interview (to do the research),
2) Choose the topic,
3) Choose the interviewee and
4) Create a list of basic questions.
First of all, students should do a thorough thinking about a topic that occupies their and public opinion and then, accordingly, do a research about this topic. This will lead them to the pick of their interviewee, a person they find best, or most appropriate, or simply most reachable at the moment. To do so, the students need to provide the explanation how they would plan to arrange the interview with their interviewee in terms of how reachable they are (i.e. how would they get to a VIP, if they choose one).
All these three steps students should justify by providing explanation – why is this person the best option for the interview, what will be the topic of the interview (with justification why), did interviewee already talked about this topic in the public and, if they did, to provide explanation what is the purpose of this interview, what kind of emphasis is student trying to put on the topic with this interview (what kind of new information is trying to provide).
For Part 4 students should write set of primary questions, organized in groups and following the thread of interview’s (sub)topics, if possible. Then for at least one question in each group provide a probe question or two.
Have in mind that this is only an interview plan, that is not a practical interview, but the interview should qualify for a “real interview”, first of all meaning that the chosen interviewee is accessible, as listed above.
Also, this Interview Plan must be the one you will follow when preparing for the Assessment #3 of this course, although most probably you will have to make adjustments to it when preparing for the Practical Interview.
