Each student will identify one particular policy at the federal, state, or local level that is of interest to them that will serve as their “unit of analysis” for the remainder of the semester. The policy should fall under the general umbrella of the policy area group presentation. By Building from the more general group presentation on the particular policy area, the policy identification brief should clearly outline a particular public policy, and answer the following questions:
Explain in detail what type of policy typology your policy is classified as and what policy tools were used (or will be used).
Who was the target population and how was the policy designed?
A description of the development of the policy (e.g., where and how it originated), as well as current challenges or proposed changes. In your description, you will want to talk about why your policy is moving forward now and what aided its advancement. What actors were involved in the process? What information was used? How was it used? Were there any coalitions that advocated or opposed the policy?
The policy identification assignment should be about eight (8) pages (no more than 10 pages), double-spaced, 12 point font. A final Reference List will not count towards the 10-page limit for this assignment. In addition to being evaluated on the three (3) content areas above (20%, 20%, and 40%, respectively), the assignment will be evaluated for attention to detail, including spelling, grammar, appropriate use of reading from the course, and general readability (20%)
