Perception Essay: Write a short essay (2 pages maximum) in which you take the point of view of a fictional main player in the immigration drama unfolding in the Lower East Side during the 1890’s to 1920’s. Please address this question: Who is to blame for the problems in the tenements and in the Five Points? Write the creative narrative in first person–write from the point of view of this character: what does the character see? Hear? Smell? What have they experienced? What is their perception of themselves? Their world? And what reasons do they give for placing the blame on a particular person/institution/etc.? YOU CANNOT ASSUME THE IDENTITY OF ANY OF THE REAL-LIFE PEOPLE IN THE DOCUMENTARY.
Perception essay should be two(2) pages typed-10-12 point font, Times New Roman, and double-spaced.
