Rumi Reading Journal (Ch. 9-19)

( You will read Chapters 9-19 from the book Rumi. I will provide you with the book pages and an example of how the reading journal should look. Include an image and explanation of how it represents one idea that stood out to you in the reading.)

Criteria:

1st & Afterthoughts
First thoughts BEFORE & insight gained AFTER reading it.

Learning Outcome Quote(s)
2+ memorable quotes from the reading with correct MLA in-text and work cited references along with a discussion of how they relate to two or more course objectives listed on the first page of the syllabus

Learning Outcome Questions
2+ questions with attempted answers to them, including MLA citations for additional resources you consulted to try and answer them. One should be adapted from lit/crit questions in Purdue’s OWL. This would be a good way to tie in your selected themes.

Learning Outcome Vocabulary
2+ new literary terms each post defined AND used in sentences of your own crafting with correct MLA in-text and work cited references

Learning Outcome Metaphor/Allegory
An insight interpreting this section of the text’s metaphorical or allegorical aspects

This criterion is linked to a Learning Outcome Theories of Criticism
An insight about how the text may be interpreted according to one or more of the schools of literary criticism you selected at the beginning of the semester.

Learning Outcome Connections
One or two four-sentence paragraphs summarizing the reading assignment with comments about how it relates to your life, current events, and the themes you have elected to explore this semester. Include and highlight use of two or more vocabulary words.
