Not-for-profit organizations have to deal with media and public relations constantly also to remain in the public consciousness in order to meet their mission of public service and attract donors. At the same time, they must market their services to ensure that people are aware of their organizations and support them in many ways. Nonprofits also have to contend with news reporters and watchdogs who scrutinize their activities and legal filings. The National Council of Nonprofits insists that not-for-profit organizations need to “cultivate a culture of accountability and transparency” to win the public’s trust.
Develop a comprehensive strategic management design and proposal to capture the following issues and questions:
Formulation of Strategy:
Where are we now? (for example, we are low on funds, resources, volunteers)
Where do we want to go?
How do we get there?
Implementation of Strategy:
Steps to implement the strategy based on the above points
Practical considerations and limitations
Examples of actions that can create the success
Challenges and maintaining the strategy for short term to long term
Evaluation of Strategy:
Where did we start?
Where are we now?
How successful has been our strategy?
Where do we go now?
In order to answer these questions, consider an existing non-profit organization, or create a new one, which is looking to enhance one or more of the following:
Image of the organization
Create better awareness of the cause
Improve fund raising
Attract more volunteers to the organization
Create unique events in the community
Build Trust
The proposal will incorporate one or more of the following:
Current status of the organization based on question 1 above
Follow up to the strategic meeting with the organization based on question 2 above
Strategy formulation, implementation and evaluation techniques based on question 3
Attachments of ideas including but limited to social media, articles, marketing materials etc.
Writing and all additional support to be submitted. (Approx. 1500 words total)
Writing paper should follow the requirements as detailed in the syllabus
Supporting samples, research and other materials required (additional to 1500 words)
Your paper should have the following:
Executive Summary
Non-profit organization: its mission/values/strategic focus and its core competencies
Identifying competitors will help you in creating your new plan
Your Analysis (factors affecting the non-profit organization and your viewpoints)
Strategic Program or another program (for your new products and services)
Implementation Plan (for your new products and services)
Evaluation and Control (for your new products and services)
Provide additional information, for example, ideas of promotional materials, advertising, promotions, any helpful research, website, social media blogs etc. Provide what you feel is critical to the understanding of the strategic plan, which may include marketing, sales, promotion or other organizational development plans, including training, process improvement, quality management or related areas.
