The Assignment Prompt is at the bottom. Please read all of the instructions before following the prompt.
This is the fifth opportunity of 8 opportunities to turn in 4 writing assignments. Once this opportunity passes, you cannot go back and use it. Including this opportunity, you have 4 chances left to make sure you have turned in, and scored a “complete” on, the 4 writing assignments.
IF YOU HAVE NOT YET TURNED IN A WRITING ASSIGNMENT OR IF YOU HAVE ONLY GOTTEN “INCOMPLETE” GRADES SO FAR ON WHAT YOU’VE TURNED IN, you must turn in every writing assignment that is left — this one and the next three — and earn a “complete” grade on all of them, or your grade will be lowered.
REVIEW “Writing Assignment Grade” in Week 1’s module to see how your grade will incrementally fall.
You must turn in (by uploading) this assignment by Friday, Feb. 28, at 5 pm or this opportunity will be gone. LATE assignments are accepted up until 6 pm and are downgraded accordingly.
For this assignment, follow the Guidelines that are posted in the first module — Week 1. Refer to the Sample and the Rubric.
***Don’t forget to ask for feedback if you want it. There is a comment section when you upload your assignment where you can indicate that you would like feedback.
Here are the guidelines for citing:
Do NOT use a works cited page.
Cite WITHIN THE TEXT.
BOLD YOUR CITES.
Use the name of the article or video, and the pg. or minute of the video on which the direct cite or reference starts.
If the cite is a general reference, you may omit the page or minute number.
Include the link when referring to an outside source. Note: Course sources earn more points than outside sources.
Follow these examples; there are two ways to cite (you may use one, the other, or a combination throughout your paper):
(1) An example of this can be seen in the Ted Talk of Joelene Roberts, starting on minute 4.
(2) “Mr. Donner has been re-arrested for using meth 22 times, and never has he been offered treatment.” The Treatment Myth, Pg. 2.
Here is an example of using an outside source:
“Norway requires drug treatment and has replaced traditional jails with treatment facilities.” A Different Prison Perspective, pg. 3, www.prisonwatch/archives/adifferentprisonperspective
!! The cites above are made up. They are not real. They are for example only. Please do not use them. !!
**BE CAREFUL! An essay will automatically receive an “incomplete” (not passing, and therefore not counting toward one of the 4 required writing assignments) if it (1) does not have an underlined thesis OR (2) uses first or second person in any way (I, we, you, etc.) – the ENTIRE essay must be in third person.**
ESSAY PROMPT: What might a psychologist recommend to drug treatment providers about what to focus on when counseling drug users? What might a sociologist recommend? Compare and contrast the two perspectives, in light of this week’s material, and incorporate other relevant material from previous modules.
