Changing the Ties that Bind

This assignment asks you to read a research article and write a 1 page minimum / 2 page maximum Executive Summary of the article. An executive summary is similar to a long abstract in that it is a summary of the most important points of the entire article.

These articles cover incarceration, health, and family relationships.

Please follow these steps for writing your Executive Summary/Research Brief:

1. Read the entire article

2. While reading, highlight passages and make notes in the margins or on another piece of paper

3. Start your Executive Summary with an introduction to the issue discussed in your article. Be sure that your introduction identifies the topic, explains why it is important, and mentions what research the authors conducted to arrive at their findings.

4. Write in your own words and do not use any quotes from the articles. I am asking you to do this to develop your paraphrasing skills. Blackboard will be able to report how much of the text in your paper is original.

5. When you have a finished draft, contact someone from class to edit your paper and also edits theirs (if you need help finding an editing partner let me know).

6. Upload both your edited draft and your final paper in WORD format please so I can edit and add comments.

I will need a draft of the paper by the 23rd and the final draft is due to the 25th! Please use only the attachment I uploaded as a source, NO OUTSIDE SOURCES!!! Please follow all instructions and message me if you have any questions
