AVIATION HISTORY (Concorde)

The assignment is as follows:

“Concorde was the world’s most prominent supersonic airliner, serving from 1976-2003. But this technological marvel of an airplane has been considered by some observers to have ultimately been less than successful. Among their criticisms is that although Concorde was an engineering triumph, it was a commercial failure—since it did not lead to any successor aircraft. Consider this: the Boeing 707 led to the 747; the Airbus A300 family led to the A330 and A340, but Concorde was retired with no second-generation supersonic airliner there to replace it in airline service. Subsequent ideas for large, supersonic airliners have never proceeded past the mock-up phase. ”

2) Why aren’t there any ‘next generation’ supersonic airliners in operation right now?
