“Hegel thinks that freedom is realized socially, in a community. He thinks that social freedom is true freedom, and he opposes it to individual freedom. Why does Hegel think individual freedom is inadequate? And how does he think social freedom solves the problems with individual freedom that he identifies? Why does Hegel think that social freedom has the result that duty is liberating? Or, why does he think that being bound to a community and its laws and institutions makes us free?
