Security vs. Usability
This assignment is about the concept of security vs. usability; which, as we’ve discussed, is always a trade-off. The NYT column, attached below, uses the word “friction” to describe this tradeoff.
Read through the attached column, then find one or two other specific examples of security vs. usability (NOT security vs. privacy), in other products besides Zoom. These do NOT need to be bad examples, some companies have done a very good job on this tradeoff.
Then, write about 2 pages over the concept of security vs. usability, being certain to use the examples you found, and give your opinion on the level of compromise between security and usability. What’s the acceptable level of tradeoff? How much usability should we sacrifice in the name of better security / How much security can be sacrificed for better usability?
