Students will complete a book review of NOTA. This book review will be due on Thursday, April 30 at 5:00 pm in D2L in the ASSIGNMENTS tab. Your book review will be comprised of 4 of 5 of following components. Every book review must contain number 5 :
Summary of the book- what is it about. How would you explain to someone the major ideas/concepts and themes of this book in 1 paragraph? This summary should not have specific details of the story, instead it should provide an overview of the story.
Something you learned from the book that completely shocked/surprised you. With quotations and details, explain an event, an episode, some historical information that you learned, anything about the book that shocked/surprised you.
Description of an idea/teaching approach/concept that you will take with you into your classroom as a future teacher. Describe something that you learned about teaching that you think is valuable and that you hope to carry forward into your teaching career.
Explain a concept, idea that you disagree with. Describe why. Provide some specific evidence or explanation for your critique. You must use some sort of examples to support your argument here.
***Relate something from the book to an idea that you have learned from chapters 1, 2, 4, 6, 9, 10, 11 or from Baldwin’s Talk to Teachers. Use quotations and explain how these ideas relate.
Your book review must be 2-3 pages long. Remember that academic paragraphs are 5-7 sentences long
