The essay says, “Compare and Contrast the differences between the nineteenth century North and the South”. That means in the 1800’s, in all of the following cases, A, B, and C. So, you have to do all three.

Part A: describe each of their economies from the American system through 1860. So, the Topics for North, to answer this question are “American System 1816” and “Market Revolution”, that ID that explains all the changes that happened. If you want to refer a little bit to a few things like “Journey Men’s” lives being ruined, or factories or the Erie Canal. Go ahead. But the main idea you need as market revolution. For South the main Topic that you need is “Plantation Slavery”. So, for this essay, part A, make sure you explained the “American System” that divided America into manufacturing versus agriculture. Then talk about the North, which had the “Market Revolution” and economic development that went with that. And the South had “Plantation Slavery”, upon which the entire southern economy was based.

Part B: explain each of their views on proper morals and values for men and women. So, the Topics you need for this part, starting with the North again, start with the “Doctrine of the Spheres”, which explained men being aggressive and going to work and women are supposed to be part of “True Womanhood”. So, for the north you have those two Topics, “Doctrine of the Spheres” and “True womanhood”. And for the South, two Topics, “Code of Honor” and “Plantation Mistress”.

Part C: explain each region’s view on secession and was it legal, and under which circumstances. What was the earliest source of this disagreement? So, for Part C, explain the Topics “Virginia Resolution” and “Kentucky Resolutions”. Which happened after the constitution, when a Thomas Jefferson and James Madison wrote the Virginia and Kentucky Resolutions saying, if states felt that federal laws were unfair, they could refuse to obey them. They could avoid them and maybe even secede. Then just talk a little bit about the Topic “Secession Crisis”. South felt they were going to succeed over Lincoln being President and the issue of slavery being expanded and left alone as states’ rights. And the North felt once you join the constitution and the United States, you cannot secede. Secession is illegal. So, they made war against the South to prevent it from happening.

That’s the whole essay. You should have roughly a few sentences from each Topic. Make an essay that’s about two or three pages. Just answering the question about the differences between north and south.
