Virtual Art Museum Visit and Reflection Paper: “Signature Assignment”
In order to deepen your understanding of art, you will:
Choose a favorite virtual art museum from the Google Arts & Culture website linked here: https://artsandculture.google.com/partner?hl=en. which I have chosen Tokyo National Museum link to the site – https://artsandculture.google.com/partner/tokyo-national-museum?hl=en. As you browse, write down what you experience. What do you see that looks familiar based on the readings, lecture notes, and assignments from throughout the class? Click on images that look interesting and find out if the museum has listed more information about who made the artwork and why it is important. Use your notes to aid in writing your paper. The museum you choose to write about must cover artistic style/s covered in this course. Do not write about a natural science museum or a historical museum unless there is a special exhibit specifically dedicated to one of the art approaches explored in the class.
From your visit you must write a 3-4 page reflection on your experience which includes discussion on the following: o A thorough description of at least one specific artwork. o Pictures of your chosen artwork and at least three additional snapshots of the museum website. If using a PC computer, capture your screen with the “print screen” button, open an image program like Paint and “paste”. If using a Mac, press command+shift+3, and follow the same procedure. If using a smart-phone, check online to see how to screen capture and save the image. o A discussion of the artist & the artistic style in which the artworks were created. o What you liked/disliked about this work & why. o The experience of viewing the artworks online; how were they grouped on the museum website / online interface? o How is art relevant to us today?
