Post-9/11 Use of IT in National Security – if you select this topic for your paper, you will examine relevant theories of how information management is used in modern national security operations to help government (national, state, and local) coordinate efforts toward preventing acts of terrorism. This topic observes that technology use by extremists (see Kremling, chapter 7, pp. 134-135 in particular) has expanded significantly in recent times, leading to an increase in cyberterrorism designed to attack critical infrastructures as well as technology usage against physical targets like 9/11. Suggested areas of interest that you may want to consider include (you may select some of these areas to cover, or identify areas of your own that you want to explore):
o How has U.S. national security policy changed since 9/11 to utilize IT to combat various types of cyber-threats?
o How has IT helped to coordinate national security policies across agencies like the National Security Agency (NSA), Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and Federal Bureau of Investigation?
o How has IT been utilized as a means of coordination with state and local governments?
o What are additional considerations in how information management by government is being used to prevent cyberterrorism and protect critical infrastructures?

◊ One page should be a title page with your name, title of the paper, and course number. This is in addition to the length requirement. The paper must be 11-12 pages double spaced pages, no longer or shorter.
◊ At no point in your writing should phrases like “I think”, or “In my opinion” appear. This is an analysis paper.
