Instructions: For this assignment, you need to find a scholarly article on the work you are currently writing on. Then, obviously, read the source (while articles vary in length, you should find scholarly articles that are no shorter than ten pages and no longer than 40 pages or so). Then after considering ways in which it relates to your topic AND your stance, you must write three parts for the assignment: 1.) Write a works cited citation for the source.
2.) Write a brief paragraph summarizing the source’s argument (do not editorialize or give your opinion in this paragraph) approximately 100 words in length.
3.) Write a longer response paragraph that demonstrates your critical thinking on the work of art you’ve chosen which also includes ideas from this secondary source in order to help you develop your argument/thesis.
Assignment Requirements:
1.) The full, MLA “Works Cited” citation at the top of your paper. (see student sample below for an illustration)
2.) A brief summary paragraph, about 100 words.
3.) A longer response paragraph, about 200 words, in which you practice P.E.R.T. and develop your ideas on the issue from the source. This is the place to put down your ideas on paper. If you complete this assignment correctly (using PERT), you could later use it as the first draft of a body paragraph for your essay!
Remember: You should use this activity to help generate ideas for your essays! This assignment should be one full page, double spaced, typed, in Times New Roman, 12 font (that’s a minimum of about 300 words). This activity is intended primarily to help you respond to the essay and develop your ideas in an academic way by joining the “scholarly conversation” on the work of art that you’ve chosen.
