This week, we will work on getting prepared to submit your second Essay – The Informative paper. This is due Sunday, July 5 by 11:59 PM. I’d also like to see an informal outline (due July 2) of all your discussion points so I know you have a solid plan; this is also helpful for when you take your work to a tutor and he or she can see what your discussion points are at a grand scope. Please be sure to sign up for an Upswing Tutor — it is obvious some of you are not working with one. I can guarantee that if you use the Upswing service, your grades and feedback might improve the next time around.
There are no assigned discussion leaders this week, as I feel that each one of you could benefit from posting a response to the Discussion 6 forum. This will also help me understand where you are in the writing process this week. Although everyone is creating a thread this week, I’d like for each one of you to RESPOND TO AT LEAST THREE PEOPLE in the forum. Give solid advice to your classmates; I should not see anyone saying, “that sounds like you will make an A on that paper” or “No worries, you got this!” Be fair to your fellow classmates and extend your help and support as much as possible through your feedback. Ask questions. Be encouraging, but don’t be afraid to tell them what needs to be done.
Please be sure to read EVERYTHING in the Week 5 learning module this week. Some of you are sending me emails about things that are clearly listed in the modules. Please know that this is a pet peeve of mine when students ask questions without first realizing that the answers could be somewhere in the learning modules! On that note, I will be sending out an additional email that explains how to send out professionally written emails; some of your emails seem unprofessional and a bit cellular-text driven.
Okay, all. I have to get back to submitting mid-term grades (they are due tomorrow), but I will be in touch a few more times this week and will be collaborating with many of you in the discussion forum. I will be reaching out to 0098 students once mid-term grades are finalized. As of now, your mid-term grade is whatever you see in the grade book unless there’s assignment you’ve submitted late and has not been graded.
