Choose one of the Psychological Disorders discussed in Chapter 15 and write a Research Paper
on it.
For example, Bipolar Disorder, PTSD, Schizophrenia, Autism Spectrum Disorder (Chapter 15 Bipolar or Schizophrenia Disorder
Your paper should include factors such as diagnostic criteria, history, and prevalence of the
disorder and treatment. To make this paper more meaningful, choose a topic that is personal for
you. For example, if you have a child or relative with a disorder, this will provide a great
opportunity to learn more about it. If you wish, you may also do a Case Study as a part of your
paper. Explore the disorder in Part 1 and make the Case Study Part 2.
You can also conduct an interview with someone who has a disorder and who is willing to talk to
you about it. Be creative.
– There is no set or rigid manner in which you have to present your final product but it must
follow the general guidelines described above.
– Your paper must be a minimum of 4 pages. You may type your list of references on the back of
page 4
-Grading will follow the general guidelines listed below but it may be adjusted to match the
layout of your paper.
⁃ Abstract – (5 points)
⁃ History and prevalence – (10 points)
⁃ Diagnostic criteria – (10 Points)
⁃ Treatment – (10 points)
⁃ Miscellaneous – (5 Points)
-Your paper must be written in APA style. Visit the APA website if you need to but here are the
basics which must be included in your paper:
1) A Running Head
2) An Abstract, which is a brief summary of your findings
3) A bibliography in alphabetical order APA style
for example:
Dixon, R(2019) The Curse of Schizophrenia. Penguin Books
Foster, M(2020) Depression and Suicide
Please note that these are not real titles. You must have a minimum of 4 sources including your
textbook ( Psychology Twelfth Edition by David G. Myers (Author), C. Nathan DeWall (Author), and the DSM (More about the DSM later).
