The readymade

Select two (2) mass-produced objects, put them together and declare it art.
In a couple paragraphs (200-250 words) describe the original idea for putting these two objects together – something specific or just random chance – and the effect of the combination/juxtaposition on a viewer. The thinking behind it should be the first paragraph and the effect on the viewer a second paragraph. The original concept can be as simple as ‘I thought it would look good together’ ‘it was there’ etc., but use a couple sentences addressing why these two objects are connected to each other. Duchamp made Bicycle Wheel because he was curious about the shadows it cast. For the second part of the question, you need to show it to someone in your house or via Zoom, FaceTime, etc. Use the second paragraph for a brief summary of what happened next.
The point of the assignment is an exercise in attention, in thinking about objects: what happens when the familiar context given to objects disappears. Because the second paragraph is a summary description, there is no clear right or wrong answer. But there is a better and a worse answer depending on what you write and the length. Put something unexpected together, declare it art, show it as art to someone else. What happened next?
