Ms Susie Jones, a 37 year-old-black American client who has been coming to the hospital’s out-patient clinic because she has brittle diabetes. Ms. Jones’s diabetes was diagnosed 6 months previously; however, the diabetes remains uncontrolled by insulin. The client was placed on a regimen of 40 units of lente insulin with 5 units of regular insulin at 7:00 AM and 4:00 PM. When Ms. Jones comes to the clinic today, she has an episode of “blacking out,” or an insulin reaction because she forgot to eat after taking her morning insulin. This morning, as frequently in the past, Ms. Jones is at least one hour late for her scheduled appointment.
