Write your family story using the following guidelines: *List the people in your immediate family (or those who lived within your childhood household). Include marriages, divorces, educational achievements, occupations, political views, and socioeconomic levels. *Describe how your family viewed issues in education such as parent-teacher communication, discipline, diversity, media, gender, and school/home involvement. *Discuss how your family of origin experience effects you today. How did it influence the kind of person /educator you are? How have these impacted your views about education, diversity, and your future? How has it affected your relationships with children and families? *Include an analysis of what you need to understand yourself better and what you might change if you are going to work effectively with diverse families in an educational setting. Do some “inner work” and try to figure out what part(s) about you might have to change in order to work with diverse families in a school or community setting. Reflect how your family views about diversity might affect you working within a school or living within a diverse community? How will your family experiences affect how you feel about people who are different from your family? What do you need to do in order to grow and work well with people who may be from a different culture (race, ethnicity, income/social class, gender, IQ, language, etc.)? *Please also include what areas you hope to continue with your own work with children, and how/why you might do things differently. *Please connect to our course materials. You might consider talking with relatives and asking them to share stories about when you were young. Be sure to address each of the guidelines (listed above) for full credit. Your paper should be approximately 1-2 pages in length. Please not that there is no need to submit the rubric. This is for your guidance only.
