Debate

This is an outline and I’m giving you the exact format I want it in.
Below this format is what I need you to do the outline for.
Lead for the basic news story: Should be short, sweet and to the point. The lead
draws the reader into the story.
The nut ‘graph is the focus paragraph. It explains exactly what the story will be about. Sometimes, the lead and the nut ‘graph are combined. Sometimes, the nut ‘graph is written first, along with the body of the story, and then the lead is taken from those two elements.
The body of the story gets into details of the lead and nut’graph.
The escape, or exit, gets the reader out of the story. It should not be a summary of
the story.
The basic news story is written upside down, using the inverted pyramid. The most important information is near the top of the story. There are two basic reasons for this. The first is historical: Editors who had copy printed out in column widths needed to know they could chop off a story and important information would still be present. A second reason is practical: Should the reader decide to leave a story mid-way through, e or she still has the most important information.
The Reporting Triangle: ALL news stories should use this when reporting. The three sides are the observation side, the interview side and the research/documents side. A reporting scenario can begin with any one of the sides, and usually only one side will dominate the process, but all of the sides should be represented in a story. Journalism has been failing, for example, with ignoring the research/documents side.
The basic questions for the basic news story: The who, what, where, why, when and how form the basic questions of the basic news story, or any news story, or any news story.
Most od these questions will be answered in the lead and the nut ‘graph. The rest can be filled in, if they’re important to the story.
Journalists may not like the basic story formula. However, for learning how to write in the journalism style, there is no other way. The formula, as repeated in class many times, is as follows:
The Lead: The lead hooks the reader into the story. It can be a straight lead that tells the most important information right up front:
