PART 1 (WILL ADD AN EXAMPLE FOR HOW THIS PART SHOULD LOOK ON GOOGLE DOCS)
Before You Post
Review the pages included in Learning Unit IV and then also recall a few guidelines from the Roundhouse News & Review Student Policies Fall 2020 regarding feature stories:
Feature articles deal with a subject in greater depth, and usually at greater length. The goal of the story is to take you behind the headlines, behind the scenes and give readers a fuller portrait that speaks to your heart, head and senses. Try to take your readers where the action is and give them a bird’s-eye-view understanding of things.
This type of story allows you to flex your creative muscles. Features are often more flexible than hard news articles, so have fun with this. You can have more of a voice here, but remember to always remain objective.
Three Crucial Differences between News and Feature Stories:
Timing: Feature stories are not as time dependent and contain no urgent content.
Style: Feature stories typically are longer and have a creative structure. They can break traditional journalistic formulas in order to engage the reader.
Beginning and Ending: Feature stories don’t give the news straightaway. Instead, the goal of a lede is to hook the readers and keep them reading until the end.
Take original photos to supplement your article. Features often make great photo essays, too. Let the subject lead you on this — pick the medium that most effectively tells the story.
Videos can also make compelling tools for features. Don’t be afraid to try this!
Compelling audio that creates mental pictures can help move a story along. This is especially true when a source is a character (a storyteller has a distinctive voice or accent, laugh or turn of phrase).
Write a feature story, a minimum of 500 words, per this description to be published on Roundhouse and resonate with a campus and community audience.

How did you make your story?
Who did you interview?
What kind of research did you do?
What multimedia methods of reporting did you use– audio recording, video, hand-writing, online research?
What do you think worked well in your reporting of the story?
Does your final version say what you meant it to say?
If not, what more do you think it needs? An image? A little editing? A little research? A cooler title?
Feel free to add any additional comments or information about elements that may still be in the works such as photos, audio or video clips, etc.
Note: If you miss this first deadline, please still post your story when you can so that you may receive points for this assignment. Please just be aware this may mean your story won’t receive feedback during this round of copy editing depending on how late you post your story.
