Describe a source of historical significance to the pre-history of Organization Theory.
Discuss an interesting theory/inspiration for one of the three main perspectives: modern, symbolic or postmodern.
Identify a major strength and weakness related to each perspective based on your current understandings. NOTE: The attached file may be helpful: OTsummary of the paradigms.pdf OTsummary of the paradigms.pdf – Alternative Formats
Review the exercise located in BOX 2.2 Page 49. As Hatch suggests, take a moment to practice self-reflection. Which of the three main perspectives appeal to you? Why? Which do you find to the be least convincing or attractive? Why?
Since the symbolic and postmodern perspectives tend to be more difficult for students to comprehend, draw a picture of a cool/novel concept introduced in Chapter 2 (see Figure 2.2, P. 59 for some examples). Do not worry about ‘artistic production’. You may take a picture with your phone and upload it with your discussion submission. Attempt to embed this into your post vs. offering an attachment/link). Alternatively, you may choose to find an image vs. drawing one; therefore, in this case you will need to provide a citation. Otherwise, no outside resource is required for this week’s post.
