Context for Assignment

At this point, you have submitted a proposal for your paper along with a filmography and bibliography. You should now develop these into a finished academic analysis/argument with a clear,specific thesis about something of relevance to the course.

Process

Write an critical academic argument about an aspect of transnational cinema. In many case you will be using films and readings form the course but you do not have to do so.

Expectations

Your paper needs to address a specific, narrow topic that will allow you to do some close analysis of your chosen film text or texts. Far and away the most common problem with short student papers like these is tackling too big a topic and thus writing in generalities. Make sure that you give your paper a title, don’t attempt to do too much, and employ careful, detailed analysis from the film or films you are using as evidence in support of your claims. If you cite sources, as I would expect you will, you must, of course, include a ‘works cited’ page; however, your evidence will most likely be drawn mostly from viewing and consideration of the film(s). Write about film events in the present tense and do not confuse characters with actors.
