I. Introduction:

II. Heath/Mental Health Theoretical Perspective:
Choose a clinical symptom or condition (e.g. depression), disorder (e.g. personality disorder), or problem (e.g. family violence, specific health issue) in which you are interested and discuss it from one (select 1 out of the 3 options from the list) of the following theoretical perspectives.

1) Object Relations theory (other than Bowlby, Winnicott, and Mahler)
Mentalization theory (Fonagy and colleagues)
Kernberg
Masterson
Fairbairn
2) Self-Psychology
3) Contemporary Cognitive Behavioral theory (include neurobiology)

Theories you may NOTuse are the following: Ecological, Systems, Erikson, Freud, and any others emphasized in HBSE 1st year. It is strongly suggested that you run the theory and treatment model by the instructor to make sure it meets the requirements of the assignment.
You may build your paper by first discussing your selected condition/disorder/problem to analyze the selected theoretical perspective and then by presenting a brief clinical case of your own (1/2 page) to illustrate your theoretical application. If you add a brief clinical case, please note that the emphasis of your paper mustbe on theory; it should not be on the specifics of the case or your intervention with the client. This clinical case does not replace section VI below.

III. Health and Mental Health integration:
You must address the mind-body connectionby discussing the bi-directional impact of health and mental health.You may use the content we covered on the mind-gut connection/human biome. You may also draw upon theories of health covered in class, e.g., health beliefs, theory of reasoned action, etc.

IV. Neurobiology perspective:
An additional section on neurobiology is required, which may include polyvagal theory and /or stress theory, as well as other neurobiological content.

V. Diversity lens:
Diversity issues must also be included. You don’t have to cover them all, but you need to demonstrate an awareness of how these factors (e.g. class, gender, culture, race, sexual orientation, and poverty) may impact your topic (e.g. women who have been molested by a family member and the relationship to the development of a borderline personality disorder).

VI. Treatment:
A two-pagesection on treatment is required. Be sure the treatment flows from your theoretical
perspective.
– clinical approach from Narcissistic Personality from the Self-Psychology(Kohut) lense perspective.

For example, if you choose Borderline Personality Disorder your treatment
interventions would be model(s) from one the object relations theorist(s) you discussed.
