2. Basic information is gleaned from observation of the subject, interviews with subject and parents, siblings and other relatives and friends. Topics covered should follow the chapter topics covered. Each section of the paper must be labeled according the topic in the text covered in that section. You must cover the various areas of development—physical, cognitive, social-emotional—for each developmental stage (each stage is three chapters). You should not spend too much time on physical development. Be sure to write the paper from the perspective of a developmental psychology student—it cannot simply be a narrative or description; it should be an analysis of your subject through each of the developmental areas, using examples and referencing readings in our text. Note that for infancy (which should not be explored in depth) information regarding eating and sleeping patterns, growth patterns, language, and motor development, can be obtained by speaking with the subject’s parent(s) or guardians. Be thorough in your analyses and be sure to relate them to the issues, theory, and research presented in the text. WARNING: If you simply describe your subject to me in the various stages and areas of development, or just mention one theory without using it in your analysis, you will not earn a good grade! As I read your paper it should be apparent that you have taken a course in Developmental Psychology—if there are no meaningful analyses you will not do well.
