Raymond Carver’s short story “Cathedral.

Comments:
Shanata, Thank you for submitting your rough draft. Please closely read my in-text comments and use them to guide your revisions. It’s important to note that your paper needs a thesis statement and topic sentences that directly support the thesis. You also need to include textual evidence in the form of quotes from the text. Also, there are some part of your essay that too closely resemble the material in the StudyMoose essay. As you revise the essay, it’s important that the ideas are entirely your own.

The narrator resolves to have his eyes closed and shows that even though he knew that he was in his own home, he did not feel like he was inside anything. When he had his eyes closed, he saw things in another light and in the absolute way that Robert sees things. He notices that he is justly seeing things for the first time in his entire life, which ironically occurs when his eyes are closed and are being directed by Robert. Noticeably, he fathoms that Robert, as a blind, is the one who truly sees and understands how life can be good-looking, evocative, and untroubled. As a result, he learns that he is the one who is figuratively blind to see these things. He literary spends a lot of time complaining about Roberto and his life (Raymond, 3). It is not until the narrator closes his eyes and guides Robert’s hand in drawing the cathedral when he truly sees and feels a beautiful experience that makes him appreciate the world around him. Moreover, the whole experience made him realize that he was wrong, resentful of the blind man coming to pay a visit. He realized that he was also wrong in the perception regarding his wife’s affection for the blind man and the inconvenience that the blind put on his life. However, now having put himself in the blind man’s shoes, he stops his latter habit of thinking from his perspective and starts thinking from the blind man and his wife’s perceptions. When he closes his eyes and draws, he sees life from Robert’s perspective and finds it life-changing (Raymond, 13). These aspects make him decide to keep his eyes closed even after being told to open by Robert.
