Music and Revolution: Collection of Information
In this assignment, you will collect information on how music is related to social change, unrest, revolution, etc. You will need to complete all assigned reading and listening in order to succeed in the assignment. In order to collect information for this assignment you will need to:
Select a historical period of revolution, unrest, or social change and identify the time-frame and main theme of the unrest.
Describe the period of unrest. What was the point of conflict? Who was involved? What was the outcome? etc.
Identify music associated with this time period.
Provide descriptions of the music using the vocabulary of musical building blocks covered in the assigned reading.
Explain why these musical selections were important to the period of unrest.
Understand the history and current use of music as a political tool.
Appreciate the function of the parody as a musical form.
Appreciate the meaning of national anthems as political music.
Understand the meaning of politics beyond the constitution of governments.
