Argument / Counter-Argument Assignment

Length: 5-7 typed pages- please follow format guidelines in your course syllabus (MLA format for paper design and in-text citations RW55-57)
Due Date: Monday, November 9 by 11:59 pm
Assignment: Develop a 5-7 page documented Argument / Counter-Argument essay addressing one of the topics related or indirectly related to your researched argument topic (assignment steps below).
Audience: Your Montgomery College classmates
Purpose: To develop an argument based on at minimum of five sources located using the research process, at least two of which must address a counterargument. Be sure to use the ENGL102 &103 Research Toolkit (Select the Library link on the left menu, and then select Library Course Pages & Research Guides).
Step 1 (Argument)
Craft a thesis statement that speaks to your topic. Support your claim with evidence or examples drawn from what you have read and researched. Find three credible sources that support your first argument. Be sure to incorporate a minimum of three quotes and/or paraphrases for the first argument. Use the research skills you have learned in this course. Be sure to properly cite source material.(Minimum 2 pages)
Step 2 (Counter Argument)
Now that you have formulated an argument about a topic directly or indirectly related to your researched argument topic, write a counter-argument. For the counterargument, you should turn against or challenge your original argument. Support your claim with evidence or examples drawn from what you have read and researched. Find two credible sources that support the counter-argument. Be sure to incorporate a minimum of three quotes and/or paraphrases for the counter-argument. Use the research skills you have learned in this course. Be sure to properly cite source material. (Minimum 2 pages)
Step 3 (Conclusion)
After addressing your initial argument and the counter-argument, return to your original argument. Explain why your original argument is the most valid or plausible. Restate your original thesis. Be sure to concisely refute the counter-argument. (Minimum 1 page)
