Description
This assignment will help Music Appreciation students to develop their listening skills. While listening to the music, students will be analyzing the composer and the arranger’s use of the elements of music, type of ensemble, orchestration, and when applicable, vocal classification of every piece they will be listening to. They will also analyze musical interpretation, situation or context (which includes historical period, venues), genre, type of music, its purpose (dancing, listening, didactic, moralistic), and evolution.

Horn Concerto in E-Flat Major, K. 447: III. Allegro
This was the original version of the 3rd mov. of Mozart’s Horn Concerto in E-flat Major, K. 447. This movement contains basically all the musical characteristics of the Classical period. It will not be difficult for you to appreciate those characteristics.
Instructions:
Listen to the original. Describe the use of the basic elements of music, the mood of the piece, and the musical characteristics of the classical period you observed.
Then, proceed to listen to the “mambo” version of the movement. Compare the two versions. What changes were made to the musical piece? Where there any changes made to the melody, the rhythmic pattern, the tempo, dynamics, the mood? Do you think that have you were not told, you have recognized the melody and structure of the third movement of the concerto K. 447? In the essay please compare the three sets of the two versions of the same piece.

Rondo alla Mambo, which combines the music of W. A. Mozart & Cuban Mambo, was featured in this flashmob on the streets of Havana, Cuba and was the grand finale of the Mozart y Mambo project. Inspired by W.A.Mozart and written by Joshua Davis and Yuniet Lombida Prieto, it is performed by Sarah Willis and the Havana Lyceum Orchestra, José Antonio Méndez Padrón, conductor.
