The Prompt:

At the start of 1776, the debate over whether the Americans should declare independence form Great Britain intensified, and a number of Americans entered the argument by publishing important writings, Thomas Paine and Charles Inglis are two of many who did so. In your paper, first discuss Thomas Paine’s arguments as to why he believed the Americans should break from Great Britain, and then discuss some of Charles Inglis’s key positions as to why he feels that declaring independence would be a mistake (what are his concerns). Since each paper has a number of arguments, identify 4 major points from each document, discuss and analyze them in detail, and support your analysis with quotes from the reading.
