That’s the comment the professor gave for the experimental design so please go over it.

Observation – looks good

Hypothesis – are you saying that the top leaves will change color first? Ok

Prediction – Ok. Can we say “the top leaves WILL change color faster” because you need a verb.

How many leaves will you select? Please get at least 10 in each category. Can you reach the top ones? If not, how will you do it? The twist ties sound fine. Every three days sounds fine.

About the photos – There are really two easy ways to do this – one is by just using photos (and not selecting/marking leaves) and the other is by selecting marking leaves and not using photos. But doing BOTH is too much work, and you will hate it.

If you choose to do it by selecting leaves: Select your leaves randomly. Then define absolutely clearly what you mean by a color change. Then go visit your leaves and decide if they have changed color on the spot, using your definition.

OR, you can take photos of the tree. Pick 10 random spots on the top and 10 on the bottom (maybe put a grid over it and select random grid points, or close your eyes and put 10 dots on the photo). Then see which spots have changed color according to your definition.

But if you do both the logistical nightmare of hundreds of photos that will be confusing.

The variables are both fine just make sure you define the color change absolutely clearly (ex. no green left, ex. all yellow, ex. bright yellow, ex. more than half orange, etc). Pick a definition that works for your tree.

Data table. So, you’ll write down for each leaf it has changed color? That’s nice – you can then at the end convert this to which day each leaf changed color and do a simple t-test to compare dates.

Always put the independent variable on the x-axis. Always put the dependent variable on the y-axis. There’s no need to graph leaf number, as that’s randomly selected, right? And, there’s no time on this graph but your hypothesis is about time. LYour graph – I’m sorry but don’t understand it at all!
