Ergonomic Assessment – Biomechanics (Kinesiology)
– Practice assessing a workplace and preparing a professional report
– You are an ergonomist (feel free to be creative and professional e.g. give yourself a company name, design a company logo – not required but adds to the professionalism) hired to do an ergonomic assessment of a computer workstation (for the purposes of this assignment it can be your own workstation or the workstation of someone you know). Assess the chair, work surface, keyboard, mouse,
monitor, lighting and access to non computing materials (books, writing materials etc). Use at least one upper limb analysis technique
• Prepare the report as though it is going to a Corporation.
• Emphasize issues of injury risk, but also see if you can demonstrate potential benefits to production cost, quality, decreased down-time, etc.
• Assess risk using 1 of the upper limb tools taught
• Identify likely specific injuries which may result from continued performance of the tasks as you observed.
• List changes that you think would be beneficial and why (be specific about how the change would improve an observed risk factor)
