The project is first to identify a problem in your organization (the problem is improving reading fluency and comprehension for first graders) that needs to be addressed and can be addressed through a comprehensive and systematic process of DDDM utilizing the “Problem-Solving Cycle” by Victoria Bernhardt.
Develop this problem issue through the stages of the cycle as outlined in Appendix I (Appendix I is attached in the 8 files below). Create a single Problem-Solving Cycle Project Word document. You will be going through the first seven steps with a team of people (3 imaginary people, like the assistant principal, 1st grade team leader and the reading coach). The remainder of the Problem-Solving Cycle Project steps (steps 8-9) are completed as a plan as to how these steps might occur for each of steps.
The final project consists of a paper and multi-media presentation (powerpoint) which details the steps of the Problem Solving Cycle completed and the results of the steps. All of the artifacts that are used in the development of the plan, brainstorm work, data collection plan and plans for implementing steps 8 & 9 are included in the paper and presentation.
reading articles,, personal research and personal examples are to be included in the paper and presentation. Cite and reference readings from the course when appropriate in your paper, but a minimum of 9 different references are required. The paper should be written in APA style and should include a reference section. The paper should include all steps completed as part of the Problem-Solving Cycle Project, steps which are anticipated with appropriate plans and a discussion which reflects on the role of leadership in developing a culture of DDDM, leadership in implementing DDDM methods and issues which exist as a result of making changes to a DDDM culture and methods. The summary presentation is a multi-media (Powerpoint) overview summary of the project with an identification of the issue, a summary of leadership activities taken using the steps and a focus on the degree of leadership in DDDM success and lessons learned. This is a summary and should be designed to be used as a professional development presentation to members of your school staff
