This project involves researching, writing, and illustrating a proposal for a presentation about one of the topics we’ve covered in this class.
Imagine you can travel again and you’re driving along the interstate (walking through an airport or train station) and you come to a rest area. You’re waiting for the rest of your party to meet outside the bathrooms and take a moment to look at the display cases they have there for you to see. Your job is to design the content for one of these display cases.
Your project should educate the public about one of the key topics we have covered in this class:
Energy consumption and/or conservation
Sources of energy (including fossil fuels, nuclear, wind, solar, hydropower).
Global climate system – how it works
Global climate change – humans’ role in it
Climate change activism
I do not want your project to be a trivial “save the whales” or “recycle to save the planet” token kind of display. It should educate the public about what you have studied in depth. To that end it must:
Be fact based.
Show evidence of research (use citations as appropriate, more later on that).
Include a broad thematic statement. In paper writing you might call this a thesis statement. Tell me what your display is about by using a complete sentence.
Have three connected ideas/evidence that go alongside your statement.
Offer solutions/conclusions in a paragraph form.
Briefly describe the state of your topic at the moment.
Put your topic in context: why is it important?
Include ideas about how the topic is pertinent to the average person’s life
Reference to one or more quality sources to which the reader might turn for more information.
