Submit only your thesis statement, followed (in a new paragraph) by one body paragraph. Your paragraph should ideally be between 1/3rd and 1/2 of a page (avoid going over half a page). Remember to always stay in present perfect verb tense when you’re describing the action within a film, a text, or by an author or director. Verb tense shifts (or using past tense in these instances) is frustrating for your reader and makes the essay difficult to read. As always, use MLA formatting for the layout of your submission. You do not need to include a title at this stage of the writing process. Use the Prezi and Purdue Owl video in the Reading and Writing Strategies module for help with writing your thesis statement. Remember, it must be an argument that specifically responds to the prompt in Module 4 on A Place in the Sun (1951). You must use the TAXES format (1. an arguable Topic sentence, 2. Assertion statement/s, 3. eXample/s, 4. Explanation, and 5. Significance) to order and structure your body paragraph (as well as the other body paragraphs that you will eventually compose). For more information, view the TAXES instructions in the Reading and Writing Strategies module. Your example/s in your body paragraph must include a direct quotation, either from the film or an outside source. Film quotations do not require in-text citations; all other sources do (and should be correctly cited). Evidence comes primarily from A Place in the Sun itself; secondary sources provide additional context and evidence for your claim/s.
