Ethical Reasoning

For this assignment, in conjunction with your reading of Chapters 9 and 10 in The American Yawp（http://www.americanyawp.com/）, please review the “Ethical Reasoning Rubric” from the AAC&U (see link below) that offers explanations about this concept. In particular, the AAC&U offers the following definition:

Ethical Reasoning is reasoning about right and wrong human conduct. It requires students to be able to assess their own ethical values and the social context of problems, recognize ethical issues in a variety of settings, think about how different ethical perspectives might be applied to ethical dilemmas and consider the ramifications of alternative actions. Students’ ethical self identity evolves as they practice ethical decision-making skills and learn how to describe and analyze positions on ethical issues. Please write a 400-500 word response (nearly two double-spaced pages) to the following questions. Aim to be precise and logical in your written explanations and refer to at least TWO (2) relevant primary source documents:

The antislavery and women’s rights movements were each considered very radical in their day, yet their believers thought that they were acting as ethical people. Select ONE of these movements — antislavery OR women’s rights — and explain how the leaders and believers justified their ethical views and actions. If this movement was an “ethical” one, why did it face so much opposition? Finally, if you had been alive in this era, would you have supported or opposed this movement? Why?

In your responses, please explain with specific reference to leaders, events, ideas, and the ethical components of the movement.
