Martine ” The career counseling model I chose is developmental theories. The advantages of this theory are it can assist school counselors. Students at the high school level are still exploring their goals. The development theory can help students see how they view themselves in the world of work. I believe internships and work experiences in the summer are vital opportunities for students to explore. They get a chance to weigh the positives and negatives. Second, the theory allows for career maturity. Students are involved in the planning of the career choice. They accept responsibility for their decisions. Lastly, the students are more aware of the aspect of the chosen vocation.

However, the disadvantages of the developmental theory is it boxes the students in one occupation. Students may transition through the development stages several times before arriving at the disengagement stage. A career choice made in their twenties may change in their thirties and again. Second, the theory does not consider all facets of an individual life. A student may assess as a lawyer, go complete law school and hate the hours required for the career. I believe there must be work/life balance for long-term career fulfillment”.
