Paper #1 will draw on the readings from week one and two and is hoping to create an expository composition in which you inform the audience about the relationship between poverty and privilege. Demonstrate that you understand the habits of mind of academic writers Ch. 1 and reading as writer and writing as a reader Ch.2. Here is your task select ONE of the two options:
Option 1 Johnson’s insights about privilege can be put into conversation with Barbara Ehrenreich’s analysis of cultural attitudes about poverty in the United States (pp. 482–485). Write an essay in which you use Johnson’s terms to analyze the examples in Ehrenreich’s essay. What conclusions can you draw about the prevailing attitudes about the poor and the impact this has on those who fall into this category? You may feel inclined to connect this analysis to the Netflix film The 13th as well.
Be mindful that this requires you to provide reflection on the reading using the sources to inform the reader but the content we look for is your analysis. In other words what do you think is important for the reader of your work to know about the issues we are addressing?
The paper should be MLA format. 12 pt Font Times New Roman. 1 inch margins. See the Purdue OWL Formatting Guide
