Website Audience Analysis

Directions:

Choose a website belonging to a professional organization or a business, and based on what is present, determine who the intended audience is. Then write a brief, two-page paper explaining your analysis of the website. Your paper should make a clear claim about the intended audience of the website and present quotations and details that support your claim.

Please ensure that the website’s content is appropriate for an educational setting and avoid websites with sexist, racist, or homophobic content.

Feel free to use the below questions as a starting point for your analysis.

What information is presented on the website? What does this information reveal about the intended audience? For example, a university website with information about student events is likely targeting students or prospective students.

What is the register of the writing on the website? For example, is the writing highly formal, or is it informal? Do the writers use technical or specialized terms, or do they use general vocabulary? What do these details suggest about the intended audience’s education and professional interests? For example, a website providing information about medications to doctors will likely use more specialized language than a website providing information about medications to the general public.

Website designers select images that they believe will appeal to their intended audience. For example, a website targeting parents might display photgraphs of happy, engaged children. What images, if any, are displayed the website you have chosen? What do the images reveal about the intended audience’s interests or lifestyles?

Website designers often select images that reflect their intended audience. For example, a website targeting women might display photographs of women. What do the images suggest about the demographics (age, gender, socio-economic status, educational level, etc.) of the intended audience?

Requirements:

The website must belong to a business or professional organization.
The essay should be a minimum of two full pages (not one and half pages).
The essay should follow MLA-style format conventions, including
Double spaced
One-inch margins
12-point Times New Roman, Arial, or Calibri font.
