I agree to your concern about global warming, The World Economic Forum Global Risks Report of 2016 reports that failure to mitigate and adapt to global warming will be “the most impactful risk” facing the world in the coming years worse than the water crisis and weapons of mass destruction (World Economic Forum). One major effect is extreme weather. As the earth heats, weather patterns change into extremes where there is either extremely dry seasons or extremely wet seasons which occur in the form of hurricanes, storms, heatwaves, floods and droughts.
The United States populations, particularly South Florida needs to be more prepared for such storm because climate change is happening fast and in exponential rates that will only get worse with time. Some of the ways to be more prepared are to put up safer buildings with proper foundations designed to be flood-proof and strong roofing. Additionally, more distance between the human habitat and the sea. However, these are just adaptation techniques to the fact that the climate is changing. The real task lies with mitigation of climate change which included less burning of fossil fuels, planting of more trees, protecting water areas, recycling and government environmental regulations among many others.
