Natural occurrences are inevitable. We should all be adequately prepared to handle these occurrences when they emerge. The exposure to the heatwave emergency in Arizona, Hurricane Katrina, and the Harvey mosquito surveillance exposed me to the issues that individuals encounter on the ground. When handling these emergencies, paramedics must arrive at the scene of the incident within the shortest time possible to offer the affected persons the right assistance. On-scene treatment is one of the major roles provided by paramedics during these occurrences. They offer first-aid services and other cardiopulmonary services to the victims in dire need of this help. This guarantees their health and well-being. Also, they evacuate people who are often trapped to take them to safe places. For example, in the Harvey mosquito surveillance project, some of the locals had been trapped in still waters, and the paramedics took the initiative to take them to safe and secure places. Paramedics also offer mental health services because some of the victims might experience trauma. Their primary objective is to protect, save lives, and boost their welfare.

They also communicate with other parties on the ground and across various healthcare institutions to better handle any healthcare issue at hand. For example, if a patient needs hospitalization, the paramedics can communicate with the hospitals and other care centers for efficient services. They coordinate the transportation of patients from one segment to the other. Another vital role that these professionals play is tracking evacuees and patients. They ensure that they account for all the lives so enable families to have a quality state of mind. This is because if someone is not accounted for, their family members and friends might experience deteriorating physical and mental status. Overall, paramedics play an essential role in protecting, safeguarding lives, and assisting community members to overcome trauma through mental care services.
