Role and Importance of the Joint Program Manager

This paper intends to examine the role and importance of a joint program manager (JPM) and the best practices for a joint program manager. The JPM is given the responsibility and authority to guarantee the accomplishment of goals for production, development, and regulate a program to achieve the intended operational goals (Farmer, 2018). The joint program manager is held liable for arrangement of operations, credible budget, and enactment.

The Joint program manager plays many roles in the defense department since they act as agents of the Defense Department. The joint program manager offers the DoD different acquisition program needs, lower fabrication, and growth in many costs, and offers new joint warfighting capability (Eckerd and Snider, 2017). The Joint manager program reduces logistics requirements, production, and development costs through standardization.

The joint program manager is placed within the military acquisition system to ensure efficient modernization programs of ware fighters within the shortest period possible. A joint program manager is in charge of the program management office and occupies the control positions engaged by other major components involved in the program management. JPM develops a structure in the managerial system and pushes the funding progressions for the program’s decisions to succeed.

The Joint Program manager has the central authority and role for staffing, organizing, controlling, leading, planning for the combined military organization efforts. JPM assists in managing certain defense acquisition programs through support, operations, deployment, production, and disposal in the program management process. Therefore, the JPM puts into practice the basic management skills of staffing, planning, organizing, leading, and controlling the program by coordinating the people and system to reach better performance. For instance, the joint program manager collaborates with all the necessary components to involve all their offices in handling their daily operations in the management system (Benjamin and Baker, 2018). The joint program oversees the management of funds, and offers specific support, gives a status report that ensures all the components have met the program’s demands.

The joint PM is responsible for monitoring and supporting the program reactions and perceptions that contribute in its development. To accomplish this role, they must comprehend the requests, environmental influences, organizations, restraints, risks, and inspirations that influence the program. Additionally, this enables them to evaluate the performance of the deputy Joint program manager and other subordinate managers.

Joint Program Manager Best Practices

The joint Program manager should have administrative practices to guide and give practical advice on the programs. Ideally, the joint PM has to select a management approach that is based on considerations of how well the program goals will be achieved.  For instance, the joint PM has to be sensitive to those participating, such as the conditions of the environment. The deputy joint program manager is selected from the most crucial component to help in administrative practices. Administrative practices are essential since the JPM is responsible for the administrative support of the joint PMO.

I would like to be a joint program manager since the position builds leadership skills through various roles. The JMP is in charge of controlling, scheduling, organizing, harmonizing, and directing the production, progress, financial management and procurement of the programs. I will be able to acquire different management skills and effective decision-making skills through program management responsibilities.
